Up to 6-km of tunnels dug by hand.

In the 1800s, hundreds of men used picks & shovels to create an underground network of shafts and tunnels to mine the placer gold.

The first gold mine in Canada happened in the Beauce.

From 1847 to 1914, the Beauce hosted the largest historical placer gold mines in Eastern North America. It produced some of the largest gold nuggets in Canadian mining history (45 ounces to 71 ounces).

Patrick Levasseur, President and CEO, Co-founder, Director of Beauce Gold Fields (BGF) shows us some of Canada’s oldest gold shafts in this video.
